Maya's Big Girl Bed

This week we recieved notification that Maya's convertable crib had been recalled. Something about the slats on the side breaking and your childs head becoming lodged and strangling them. Since Maya is turning two we really did not want to get her another crib. So we decided that we would get her a toddler bed for her birthday. Then bubby can get a new convertable crib for his room and we can sell the old one. Here are some pic's of Maya showing off her big girl bed.

Kid's Christmas Program

Maya and Preston had their Daycare Christmas program this week. Preston was a snow bunny and Maya was a marvelous monkey. There program was originally in December but canceled because one of the snow storms that came through. Preston and his class walked in to winter wonderland and Maya and her monkey friends came in and sang.

Preston's MRI

Preston had his sedated MRI yesterday and did well. He woke up half way through so they had to give him some more drugs to keep him still. Needless to say he was still pretty loopy last night. even this morning he wasnt back to himself all the way. We should get the results back next week. As odd as it sounds we are hoping they find something. That would mean there might be an opportunity for him to gain motor function if there was something wrong that was repairable.

Backstory on the MRI: When Preston was first born and even after his surgery he had decent movement in his knees and even some in his ankles. Sometime over the summer before his shunt revision that seems to have disappeared. In addition he chockes on his food both bottle and baby food more than we would like. So basically we wanted to check and make sure that there isnt an issue with tethered cord, cysts on the spine, or development of chiari II malformation. Also at some point in 2009 he was going to have to go anyway to get baseline pictures. So his doctors scheduled him for the head and neck MRI.

We also have a feeding study scheduled for next week to check his swallow. Basically they will feed him foods of various consistency I believe with barium added while taking xray's to watch the food go down.

Pool fun

Today we headed up to mom and dads trailer on the Barbee chain. We had a great day hanging with the Johnson clan and getting to visit with Wally again. The kids and adults favorite time today was probably the pool (although the food was great too). Lilly was funny always diving in, Micah was fun as Geoff and I played catch with him (prior to the mom's showing up of course). Maya enjoyed kicking around the pool in her floaty, and Gabby enjoyed her new floaty suite. Poor Preston couldn't swim so he was stuck on the sidelines watching the show and avoiding the splashes. Asa seemed a bit unsure about the whole thing although he putted along in his floaty for a little while. Clay had fun although he is much harder to throw around the pool now that he is getting older (another couple years he will be throwing uncle Mikey around the pool).

Shunt Fixing Time

Preston went to see doctor Young on Tuesday to get his shunt tapped. After tapping the shunt (which consists of sticking a syringe in the reservoir), Dr. Young's words were "It's shunt fixing time". They were able to get us in for surgery the next morning for an 11:45 surgery. Preston couldn't eat after 5:45 am but he did really good and only had a couple breakdowns. The surgery was successful and Dr Young was able to replace the catheter that runs between the reservoir through Preston's brain and into the ventricles. He used a scope and got the catheter as far forward in the ventricles as possible. Preston stayed in the hospital over night and did great with the nurses coming in and checking on him (I think he just liked to flirt with the ladies). He was released to come home this morning at 10:00 am so all told he was only at the hospital about 24 hours start to finish. Upon getting home he drank a bottle, slept for 4 hours and drank another bottle. Now he is listening to sissy throw her fit.

The Family

This weekend we enjoyed going down to my cousin Charlies wedding. It was a great day and a wonderful wedding. It was the perfect opportunity to get a family pictures while we were all dressed up.
